Frequently Asked Questions

Who does Oregon compete against?

We are in the Collegiate Water Polo Associan's Club Northwest Division. Both our A and B teams play against the Club teams at Oregon State University, Portland State University, University of Washington, University of Washington, Washington State University, and Western Washington University in the Northwest Division.

The Northwest Division Champion qualifies for Nationals, a 16 team tournament with all the Division Champions from across the country. In 2015, the Ducks played the University of Utah, UC Santa Barbara, University of Michigan, andPenn State University at Nationals in Middlebury, VT.

Throughout the season, we also head south to get some games at invitationals in California. We've played against other CWPA squads like Notre Dame and Cal, as well as master's teams like LA United and Oakland.

When is the season?

Preseason begins during Fall Term with 1-2 practices a week. Preseason practices are held at the UO Rec Center starting the second week of classes.

The season runs from January through early May. Practices are 4 nights a week during the season from 8:00-10:00 PM at the UO Rec Center Pool.  First practice is on January 4, 2016.

We are a CWPA team and compete in two league tournaments a year and then the seeded Division Championship. The Division Champion qualifies for the National Championship Tournament which happens the first weekend in May. Along with the three guaranteed CWPA tournaments, we play in two California invitationals during Winter Term.

Is there a fee to play?

Yes, since we are a club team, there is a fee. Dues are usually around $300, but this price is subject to change. To cut down on dues, the team puts on several fundraisers throughout the year, including the annual bake sale!

Does the team cut inexperienced players?

No! As a club team, UO Water Polo welcomes anyone and everyone to the team. There are generally 2 teams, an A and a B team. Both teams participate in league play and selected tournaments. The A team has gone to the National tournament for ten of the last eleven years, earning 8th in the nation in 2015! We pride ourselves on working hard, playing as a cohesive unit, and having fun.
